Entrepreneurs Behind Bars: The Game of Blame

warm wishes from the mitchell family-3

Games are supposed to be fun and exciting but this game isn’t. We’ve all played it before, and it’s the worst game ever. You know that game where you always seem to be the “winning victim”?

Everyone is a problem but you. Nothing is wrong with you. You’re just “almost” perfect.

I hate to put it to you this way but, the bible tells us we’ve all fall short. Not one is perfect. Not one is righteous. No one always wins.

Though we know this, many of us still resort to blaming others. Let’s face it, it’s much more easier to blame than it is to not.

But, where did this behavior come from? I want to believe it’s embedded into our free will nature, and was activated when disobedience entered our lives.

Let’s go back to Adam and Eve. Everything gets clear when we go there. When God questioned why they had eaten from the forbidden tree, both blamed something or someone else. Eve blamed the serpent and Adam blamed God.

Adam, who God gave dominion over everything including Eve, said this to God,

“The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”

You see, even Adam played it.

But here’s the truth, none of us are any different. I would’ve done the same thing–blame someone else. I mean really in Adam’s case this was a matter of life or death.

But since, Adam couldn’t lie about it, he did the alternative: he played the game of blame. Unfortunately that didn’t solve the problem nor did it exempt him from the consequence at stake.

Does the Blame Game work?

The blame game doesn’t work and will only result in a losing situation for all involved. No one wins in this game because ultimately everyone loses.

If we are going to evolve into anything worth living and dying for we must learn how to take responsibility for our actions even at the cost of punishment.

Let’s take a look at Job. When God referred to Job as a blameless man, this was because he took full responsibility for everything that happened to him and through him. Job even took responsibility for the behaviors of his rebellious children. If anyone had the right to play the blame game, Job did. But, He didn’t. Instead, He chose to trust God. He knew that God would see him through. And God did.

Imagine what would happen if Job decided to blame someone or something else. Well, for one he would have probably remained in his state of despair longer than what God had intended.

How many of us stay in our state of despair longer than what God intended? Only because we hadn’t taken full responsibility for everything that happens to us.

Let’s remember that God is always in control. No weapon form against you will prosper.

Job was disease stricken. Lost all of his children and wealth. Death was intended for Job. Although Job lost everything, God gave him a longer life and restored him higher than he was before.

Image what God can do in our lives if we only decide to take full responsibility knowing that God is God all by Himself.

When you decide to take full responsibility for your life and everything that had happened to you and through you, you’re saying “God I trust you”. Everything changes from there, but more importantly you will change for the better.

With Love always,

Sandy

Entrepreneurs Behind Bars: Do you see what God sees in YOU?

warm wishes from the mitchell family-2Do you see what God sees in YOU?

Earlier this week, I asked myself: Sandy, are you clear on what you want for this coming year? I then took it to the Lord in prayer. While in prayer this question was posed: Sandy, are you clear on who you are, and how the Lord sees you?

Now there was the question I really needed an answer to, and yet one I was hesitant to ask.

This question is so important. So many of us have never taken the time to look at ourselves with our own eyes, let alone the eye’s God. Most of what we believe about ourselves is what our environment has told us, which in most cases is a lie or just half the truth.

As we enter a New Year, it’s crucial that we know whose report we will believe about our true selves. Here’s why: life can sometimes be unpredictable. While we can be crystal clear on what we want to accomplish we must be mindful that things can change, and often times they do.

Unforeseen circumstances can prompt us to think less of ourselves. In those times, we can become our own worst enemy. If we want to be clear on what we will accomplish in 2016, we must first be clear on who we are in the sight of God. We cannot accomplish anything great unless we first believe we are great enough to achieve them.

As we approach this New Year, I pray that we abandoned every false perspective that we hold of ourselves and replace them with the true one as seen in the eyes of our Creator.

Here are five scriptures to study and remember as we close this chapter and begin anew:

2 Corinthians 12:9

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Ephesians 3:20

Now to Him, who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us.

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Psalm 139:14

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.

Isaiah 41:10

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Have a joyous and blessed 2016.

Much love and appreciation,

Sandy

CHRISTmas to Me

warm wishes from the mitchell familyAs I grow and develop a deeper understanding of life, I’ve learned to detach myself from many things that no longer serve a true purpose for my existence.

No longer am I running around on a day like CHRISTmas Eve going from store to store, consuming costly meaningless things.

I finally understand the true meaning of the CHRISTmas celebration. It’s not about one day out of three hundred and sixty-five days in a year. It ‘s about ETERNITY.

Here’s what CHRISTmas means to ME:

When I was candidly disobedient and tried everything in my powers to make myself whole, like a little child, I cried out “JESUS!!’

In that very moment, like a father, He came running to my rescue. JESUS comforted me while I was still entrenched in my sins, in my place of despair. When everyone else looked to make a mockery out of my filthy and dirty condition, JESUS entered into my pitiful world and made me a promise.

He promised me if I only totally surrendered, every heartbreak, every pain, every single mishaps to Him, He would be  the rest of my soul.

Since that day I made the decision to follow JESUS, my life has never been the same.

For the GIFT of a brand new Life, I celebrate CHRISTmas.

Merry CHRISTmas,

Sandy

Entrepreneur Behind Bars: Do they hate you?

1

Do they hate you?

It’s a sad, but a true reality. We all have haters. The question I often ask is “why?”

Why do people hate on those who choose to be more and get more out of life?

I don’t think there’s a right or wrong answer, but here are my thoughts in a letter.

Entrepreneurs Behind Bars: Are you doing the time?

Faith at Work (1)If you’d asked a prisoner, some would say, ” I’m doing time” at least that’s what they use to tell me.

Like prisoners, some of us go through life just doing the time instead of using the time.

Here’s why:

We complain about getting up to go to work, we complain while we are at work, and we complain when we leave work. We repeat this cycle five, six, sometimes even seven days a week.

Let’s be frank, a life as such doesn’t add up to God’s design for a people created in His image and likeness. And although some of us know this, many of us will continue to live life as if we were doing a life sentence—like a prisoner.

As entrepreneurs, we’re often asked why we decided this path. Freedom is one of the most popular reasons and with that is the entrepreneur’s ability to make money. At one point, that was my reason. However, with almost two years since I started this journey, I now say it’s because of TIME.

What is Time?

Time is a gift, but it’s also an indiscriminate resource that can be experienced either as a curse or a blessing. Every one of us rich, poor, black and white receive the same amount: 365 days a year, 7 days a week, 24 hours in a day. The only difference is how we decide to use it. And that’s a personal choice.
Freedom of time is one the primary reason why some people decide to ditch their 9-5 job to become an entrepreneur. It was for me.
When I did the calculation, I spent a lot of my time preparing to get to work, traveling to work, being at work, and then traveling back home from work.

This cycle left me with little or no time to do the things that really mattered.  I decided that I didn’t want to spend the rest of my life like that. I didn’t want to continue feeling like I was doing the time.

Entrepreneurship gives me the liberty to use the time as I wish and not as someone else wishes for me. The time that I can use to be with the people I love, doing the things that I love, while making money.

I accepted the fact that the only way to get to that place was to have freedom of my time. If I truly wanted to take control of time I had on earth, it would have to start with a decision…. a decision that ignites ACTION.

Time, like money, is meant to be spent. Unlike money, it cannot be saved or hoarded. The scripture tells us that are “days are numbered”. This is why our time is so much more valuable than money. Everything we do in life happens within the gift of the time allotted to us. Time will continue to do what it was designed to do: move forward. It waits on no one.

While prisoner “do the time” because they don’t have any other choice, you still do. You have the power to decide how you are going to spend the remainder of your time on earth. You have the power to decide if you will continue to “do the time” or “use the time”. No one can make that decision for you.

Ask yourself today: Am I doing the time or using the time?

If you have discovered that you are doing the  time, I want to encourage you that this doesn’t have to be the case. Don’t be a prisoner in time. Choose to use your time as you wish. Choose to harness the power in time and became all that you were created to be in the image and likeness of God. Anything good worth creating will take time? So why not start now to use your time to create, build, give, and serve. We are all born2bless.

Entrepreneurs Behind Bars: The Gift and the Giver

We all embody an expression given to us as a gift.  But most of us will never make a decision to open our gift. Instead, we find ourselves in a job— toiling after peanuts not even making ends meet. So, we settle for a life that is unfulfilled and unhappy.

I worked in a jail–an environment where most of the prisoners had no hope and no aspirations of a better future. I did come in contact with a few that were very happy and satisfied despite being behind bars. This was because they had a gift and no matter where they were—in jail or in the streets– they used their gifts to serve others.

I admired those inmates because they taught me a valuable life lesson: no matter how messy our lives are, we can make a choice to be happy and be a blessing to others. We have a choice to live out our gifts—no matter what. Sadly not everyone will, and most will die not even attempting to open their gift.

I lacked Faith in the Giver and the Gift.

I didn’t want to live that life.  So, in January of 2014, when I took a maternity leave, my journey as a full-time entrepreneur began.
I truly believe that Entrepreneurship is Spirit-driven. [Read more…]
